As part of his plea agreement with federal prosecutors, van der Sloot divulged the grisly details of the crime and the fate of Holloway’s body. Van der Sloot admitted that he persuaded his two friends to drop them off at a different location, hoping to have an intimate encounter with her on the beach. However, Holloway resisted his advances, leading him to brutally assault her.
After Holloway attempted to defend herself by kneeing van der Sloot in the groin, he kicked her forcefully in the face. In his chilling account, he describes how he discovered a large cinder block nearby and used it to crush her head, causing her face to collapse. The details of Holloway’s murder were corroborated by a comprehensive and conclusive polygraph test.
The federal charges of extortion and wire fraud stemmed from van der Sloot’s promise to Beth Holloway in 2010 to disclose her daughter’s body’s location in exchange for $250,000. While U.S. officials lack jurisdiction over the murder case, Aruban authorities have chosen not to prosecute van der Sloot. He was extradited to the United States to face extortion charges from Peru, where he is currently serving a 28-year sentence for the murder of 21-year-old Stephany Flores in 2010. His 20-year sentence in the U.S. will run concurrently with his Peru sentence.
Van der Sloot has given contradictory and false accounts of how he disposed of Holloway’s body over the years. However, the Holloways firmly believe the details he revealed in his confession. They also stated that they firmly believe van der Sloot acted alone in this heinous crime and described him as “evil personified.”
During a press conference outside the courthouse, Beth Holloway declared that she considers the case solved and stated, “It’s over.” Although van der Sloot’s revelations were brutal and disturbing, as a parent, Holloway felt it was necessary to know the truth.
“I was blessed to have had Natalee in my life for 18 years,” she said. “She would be 36 years old now, and I still miss her every single day. It has been a very long and painful journey, but we finally got the answers we’ve been searching for all these years. We finally got justice for Natalee.”
