Jonathan Afolabi delivers once more for Bohemians, but faces hefty penalty after object strikes official

In a thrilling match, Bohs secured a nervy win that boosts their chances of qualifying for Europe and staying competitive in the title race. However, the club now faces a significant fine and a warning from the FAI due to an unfortunate incident involving an assistant referee. A crowd member threw an object in anger after Kris Twardek’s goal was disallowed, leading to a disruption in the game.

Referee Rob Hennessy halted the game for five minutes, consulting with the club’s ground and security staff. He warned through the PA system that any further incidents would result in the game being abandoned.

Bohs got off to a perfect start, taking the lead after just 90 seconds. Defender Kacper Radkowski capitalized on Jordan Flores’ corner kick, scoring his first goal for the club.

Drogheda quickly woke up and dominated the game for a significant period, equalizing on 36 minutes with Evan Weir’s first goal of the season from a free kick by Rooney.

Within three minutes, Bohs scored through Jonny Afolabi, but the goal was disallowed. Shortly after, Weir was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Dylan Connolly. Tensions rose as Kris Twardek’s shot from the edge of the box was also disallowed, leading to an object being thrown from the home supporters, striking assistant referee Emmet Dynan.

Just before half-time, Bohs extended their lead to 2-1 with another goal from Afolabi. However, Drogheda showed resilience and equalized on 75 minutes, thanks to a brilliant pass from Darragh Markey that set up Jamie Egan to score on his debut. The game intensified as both teams searched for a winner.

Bohs turned the tide in the closing minutes, with Afolabi converting a penalty and James Clarke scoring a superbly-struck shot from the edge of the box. The final score was 4-2 in Bohs’ favor.
