Members of the US-EU summit in Washington have issued a statement on Oct. 20, urging China to exert pressure on Russia to cease its aggression in Ukraine. They also called upon China to engage directly with Ukrainian authorities to establish a lasting and sustainable peace after the war.
The statement reads, “We urge China to compel Russia to halt its aggressive war and to immediately, fully, and unconditionally withdraw its troops from Ukraine. We encourage China to contribute to a comprehensive, fair, and enduring peace based on the principles of territorial integrity and the UN Charter, through direct dialogue with Ukraine.”
Furthermore, the statement mentions that the U.S. and the European Union are currently mobilizing their experts to explore options for compensating Ukraine in a timely manner for the losses, injuries, and damages resulting from Russia’s aggression.
A meeting held in Washington on Oct. 20 between U.S. officials and representatives of the European Union focused on various matters, including providing assistance to Ukraine.
