  • As Nikki Haley has risen in polls, so has her viability among top political donors, per The Times.
  • Some donors are describing Haley’s candidacy as one that’s creating enthusiasm among party leaders.
  • GOP donor Eric Levine told The Times that Trump’s air of inevitability has “peeled away completely.”

Former UN ambassador Nikki Haley has been tirelessly campaigning to convince GOP primary voters and top donors about her presidential bid.

With the Iowa caucuses approaching, donors hesitant to support Donald Trump are increasingly backing Haley’s campaign despite the odds, according to The New York Times.

Despite Trump’s strong polling, many business leaders have been impressed by Haley’s policy knowledge, including JPMorgan Chase chief executive Jamie Dimon, according to The Times. Dimon has publicly shown caution towards President Joe Biden’s agenda while expressing concerns about Trump’s potential reelection.

Haley’s campaign has garnered the attention of influential figures like billionaire Kenneth G. Langone, who remains undecided in the GOP race but finds Haley to be a compelling candidate as compared to Trump.

Republican institutional leaders and financial backers are divided over Trump’s nomination, with some showing reluctance due to his past conduct and influence on past election cycles.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis struggles to pin down the former president politically, leading many GOP donors to look at candidates like Haley. Top donors are now divided between accepting Trump’s nomination and those who believe Haley has the potential to overtake the former president.

Eric Levine, a GOP donor, will cohost a fundraiser for Haley next month, stating that many now believe that Trump’s nomination “can be stopped,” referencing Haley’s surge in GOP voter support.
