Johnstown Man Caught Stealing Gun and Constable’s Badge from Vehicles, Police Report

On November 28, a Johnstown man is set to face trial after being accused of stealing money, credit cards, electronic devices, and various other items from 37 vehicles across four municipalities. Tyrone Corley, 35, residing in the 600 block of Forest Avenue, was ordered to stand trial following a preliminary hearing on November 22 before District Judge Susan Gindlesperger of Upper Yoder Township.

The charges against Corley were filed by the West Hills Regional Police Department, as well as police from Upper Yoder and Richland townships. The alleged thefts occurred between March and August and led to Corley’s arrest at his residence with the assistance of an Apple AirTag connected to a stolen wallet.

Cambria County District Attorney Gregory Neugebauer noted that law enforcement had received multiple reports of vehicle break-ins over several months and urged drivers to keep their vehicles locked.

According to a complaint affidavit from West Hills Regional Police, Corley is accused of entering vehicles on various streets during March, April, and May, and stealing money, gift cards, wallets, and bank cards. Similarly, a complaint affidavit filed by Richland police alleged that doorbell cameras and video surveillance captured Corley entering unlocked vehicles and taking a Lenovo laptop, wallet, jewelry, and money from different locations.

Another complaint affidavit, this time from Upper Yoder police, stated that video surveillance allegedly captured Corley prowling at night on multiple streets and entering unlocked vehicles to steal items such as a handgun, wallets, money, debit cards, and a Pennsylvania state constable badge.

Following a warrant, police searched Corley’s home, where they claimed to have recovered the stolen wallet with the Apple AirTag. It is alleged that Corley used his girlfriend’s BMW to prowl neighborhoods during his alleged crime spree, and he is currently being held in Cambria County Prison in Ebensburg.
