Joey Fatone’s Shocking Revelation: Justin Timberlake’s Departure from NSYNC Left Him ‘Blindsided’

  • Joey Fatone was surprised when Justin Timberlake left NSYNC for a solo career.
  • The other bandmates believed Timberlake would return after touring for his 2002 album “Justified.”
  • Despite this, Fatone is not bitter and is content with his own career and life.

Joey Fatone, a member of NSYNC, revealed that he was taken aback when Justin Timberlake embarked on a solo career in 2002 and did not return to the group until their recent reunion.

In an interview with Yahoo! Entertainment, Fatone discussed the group’s new single “Better Place,” which is featured in the movie “Trolls Band Together,” starring Timberlake. Fatone stated that it felt right to collaborate as a group after Timberlake approached them with the idea.

However, Fatone admitted that he was surprised when Timberlake initially left the group in 2002. He had not anticipated that Timberlake would pursue a solo music career without plans of a group reunion.

Fatone expressed, “I was not blindsided by the breakup; I was more blindsided as far as him coming out with music and not knowing that he was going to go and do an actual album/tour thing. It was more of, ‘Hey, I’m going to do some music, and then we’ll get back together.’ That’s what that was.”

Fatone and the other NSYNC members, Chris Kirkpatrick, JC Chasez, and Lance Bass, had initially believed that Timberlake would return to the group after his 2002 album tour for “Justified.” In 2002, Timberlake had assured the New York Post that NSYNC was not breaking up and would eventually release another record.

However, NSYNC did not reunite to release new music until the 2023 “Trolls” single, although they briefly appeared together at the 2023 MTV VMAs. Their last full album, “Celebrity,” was released in 2001 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, according to Entertainment Weekly. It included the single “Pop.”

After Timberlake’s departure, Fatone pursued other projects in Broadway, television, and the food industry. Lance Bass and other band members also ventured into various endeavors.

“That’s the beautiful part about it,” Fatone concluded. “My career and my life led me somewhere else, and I’m good and I’m happy with it.”
