Joe Pesci, the renowned actor, goes to great lengths for his art, even setting his own head on fire.

In a recent interview with People, the Academy Award winner looked back on the making of “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York” as the sequel commemorates its 30th anniversary. He reminisced about the physically arduous stunts he performed for this comedy.

Pesci expressed his thoughts on filming the first two “Home Alone” films, stating, “It was a refreshing change to engage in slapstick comedy.” The email interview was published on Tuesday.

In the hugely successful franchise, Pesci played one half of a bumbling criminal duo (alongside Daniel Stern) who consistently falls victim to the ingenious schemes of a resourceful child portrayed by Macaulay Culkin. Pesci acknowledged the films’ physically demanding nature due to their comedic style.

An example of the physicality in these movies is a scene where Pesci’s character, Harry, unknowingly walks into a booby trap laid by Kevin, resulting in a fiery spectacle.

Reflecting on that scene, Pesci recalled, “Apart from the expected bruises and general discomfort associated with physical comedy, I also suffered serious burns on the top of my head when Harry’s hat was set on fire.” Pesci, known for his role in “Goodfellas,” made this statement.

Interestingly, Harry’s head catches fire not once, but twice, in the films. The first incident occurred in 1990’s “Home Alone,” while the second took place in the 1992 film during a chase between Harry, Marv (Stern), and Kevin inside a house undergoing renovations. Pesci did not specify which film he sustained his injury in.

Pesci also mentioned that he was fortunate to have professional stuntmen handle the more dangerous stunts.

“Home Alone 2,” released on November 20, 1992, welcomed back Pesci, Culkin, and Stern, as well as Catherine O’Hara and John Heard in their roles as Kevin’s parents. The movie also featured Brenda Fricker, an Academy Award-winning actress, as the Pigeon Lady.
