  • Jennifer Lawrence reveals she nearly turned down her role in “The Hunger Games” franchise because of the fame from “Twilight”.
  • In an episode of “The Rewatchables” podcast, Lawrence reflects on how the intense fandom surrounding “Twilight” made her question her own desires and aspirations.
  • Lawrence admits she never sought to become the “most famous person on the planet.”
  • Jennifer Lawrence faced a critical decision that could have altered her career’s trajectory over a decade ago.

In a recent episode of the “The Rewatchables” podcast with Bill Simmons, Lawrence admitted she came close to rejecting her iconic role in “The Hunger Games” franchise.

Simmons mentioned how “Twilight” had invaded the privacy of its main stars, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, which prompted Lawrence’s hesitance over “The Hunger Games” offer.

Lawrence struggled to articulate her reservations to those involved in the franchise, saying, “I almost didn’t do ‘Hunger Games’ because ‘Twilight’ had come out and that fandom had happened.”

Lawrence further explained, “I never envisioned attaining the ‘Twilight’-level of fame. While I aimed to pursue indie films and meaningful projects, being the most famous person on the planet was never my intention. It would have been a completely different life from what I had envisioned for myself.”

Reflecting on the intense scrutiny faced by Stewart and Pattinson during the five “Twilight” films released from 2008 to 2012, Lawrence concluded that she would have been miserable under the constant paparazzi attention.

Pattinson also shared his distressing experiences with fame in a British GQ interview last year, attributing it to his role in the globally successful romance fantasy saga, which grossed over $3.3 billion worldwide.

Interestingly, Lawrence initially auditioned for the lead role of Bella in “Twilight” but was promptly rejected without a callback.

Ultimately, Lawrence accepted the role of Katniss Everdeen in the four “Hunger Games” films. She did not disclose the specific factors or guidance that influenced her decision.

The dystopian Lionsgate productions collectively earned over $2.9 billion worldwide.

An upcoming prequel film, “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,” featuring Tom Blyth and Rachel Zegler, will be released on November 17. However, Lawrence will not reprise her role in this installment.
