Renowned actor Jay Johnston, recognized for his exceptional performances on hit shows like Arrested Development and Bob’s Burgers, was apprehended yesterday on three charges, which include a civil disorder felony. According to court documents, Johnston was a part of a group of Donald Trump supporters who violated the Capitol complex in January 2021 and confronted police officers. Before the FBI arrested him, authorities announced they were on the hunt for Johnston, along with other suspects. With the aid of social media users who recognized the actor’s TV cameos, the FBI was able to trace him. Johnston is accused of being present at one of the most violent locations during the riot, the lower west terrace of the Capitol. While the mob attacked police in the tunnel with pepper spray and other weapons, Johnston took part in pushing against the line of officers and helping other rioters near the tunnel pour water on their faces. According to the FBI, Johnson held a stolen Capitol Police shield to create a “shield wall” and cover himself and other rioters from police.
After a court appearance, Johnston was released on a $25,000 bond. Johnston has not commented publicly on the charges levied against him or his alleged involvement in the Jan. 6 riot. The FBI has arrested over 1,000 other suspects, and more than 500 of them have been convicted, with over half being incarcerated for terms ranging from seven days to 18 years. Johnston is recognized for his notable performances in movies and TV shows, including Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Mr. Show with Bob and David, Better Call Saul, and The Sarah Silverman Program.
