The University of Santo Tomas (UST) men’s basketball team is off to a surprising 0-4 start in UAAP Season 86. Despite the preseason hype surrounding Coach Pido Jarencio’s return and the team’s strong recruitment efforts, the Growling Tigers have struggled to find their rhythm.

Jarencio expressed his pride in his players and their tremendous effort. He believes that the team is just one piece away from turning their fortunes around.

According to Jarencio, that missing piece is a dominant presence in the paint who can inspire confidence in the entire team. He pointed to Adama Faye as the ideal candidate for this role.

Unfortunately, Faye has been limited by lower back injuries that he sustained prior to the season. He has only played a few minutes in two games, and his impact on the court has been minimal.

Jarencio is hopeful that Faye will recover soon and make a significant contribution to the team’s success. He believes that a player like Faye can make life easier for his teammates by providing a reliable scoring option and defensive support.

Despite their disappointing start, Jarencio remains optimistic and refuses to give up. The team faces tough challenges ahead, with matches against the league-leading University of the Philippines and defending champion Ateneo.

In other news, three referees who officiated the Ateneo-UE game have been suspended by the UAAP. The referees also worked other games where there were significant discrepancies in free throws awarded. The league is now seeking replacements for these officials.

UST will face UP, the Season 84 champions, in their next game. Jarencio vows to give his all and expressed his gratitude to the Thomasian community for their support.
