Following their tough loss to Italy in the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) on Saturday, Japan is determined and focused on their next challenge.
Not only did their 10-game winning streak come to an end, but Ryujin Nippon will now face the top-ranked country, Poland, on the last day of the Manila leg in the VNL.
Yuji Nishida understands the enormity of the task ahead.
“The next game will be even tougher. We will be facing Poland, the number one ranked team in the world, known for their exceptional blocking, spiking, and overall skills,” said Nishida after scoring 20 points in their loss to Italy at the MOA Arena.
“I am determined to change the rankings. That’s the ultimate goal in the Volleyball Nations League, and winning is crucial,” he added.
Earlier that day, Poland convincingly swept Canada with a score of 25-21, 25-23, 27-25.
The Polish team has been on a roll in the VNL, boasting a record of 9 wins and 2 losses.
Yuki Ishikawa from Japan also acknowledged the challenge that Poland presents, understanding that they would need to put in a great deal of effort to secure a victory.
“It will be another tough game like today. We are determined to win, so we will have to give it our all,” Ishikawa stated.
Ishikawa finished Saturday’s heartbreaking match with 21 points, including 17 successful attacks and 3 blocks.
The match between Japan and Poland will be the highlight of tomorrow’s triple-header starting at 7 pm. It will be preceded by a match between China and Canada, followed by Slovenia’s game against the Netherlands.
