In the karate competitions of the 19th Asian Games held in HANGZHOU, China, Jamie Christine Lim faced a tough opponent from Kazakhstan. Unfortunately, Lim couldn’t maintain her earlier victory and lost to Assel Kanay, a two-time Asian champion. Kanay scored a yuko on Lim, resulting in a 1-0 triumph in the women’s kumite -61kg division. This defeat ended Lim’s campaign in the quarterfinals at the Linping Sports Centre Gymnasium.

Before her defeat, Lim had showcased her skills in the round of 16 by overpowering Zulkhumor Tursunalieva from Uzbekistan. Lim, a talented karateka, has previously won two gold medals in the Southeast Asian Games, as well as a silver medal in the Asian Championship.

The Philippines’ karate team has already contributed to the country’s medal tally at the Asian Games, with Filipino-Japanese Sakura Alforte winning a bronze in the women’s individual kata event.

There’s still hope for the Filipino delegation to win more medals as World Games champion Junna Tsukii competes in the women’s -50kg kumite division. Tsukii, who previously won a silver medal in the Cambodia Southeast Asian Games, is determined to bounce back and will face Cambodia’s Srey Phea Chonn in the round of 16.
