Jamie Lee Curtis Cautions Comic-Con Attendees Regarding Climate Crisis

Jamie Lee Curtis is using her platform to raise awareness about climate change and its immediate impact on our planet. During a panel for her new graphic novel, Curtis spoke to Comic-Con audiences about the urgent crisis of rising temperatures and the chaos it has already caused. She emphasized that climate change is not a political issue and urged everyone to take action.

In her own words, Curtis stated, “We’re damaging the world. There is a possibility for change, but we must act now.” She made it clear that she is not trying to persuade anyone’s political beliefs but rather highlighting the reality of the situation and the steps we can take to mitigate the effects of climate change.

Curtis’s graphic novel, “Mother Nature,” co-written by Russell Goldman and illustrated by Karl Stevens, tells the story of a young activist seeking justice for her father’s death, blaming an unethical oil company. Along the way, she uncovers a new extraction project that unleashes unforeseen horrors.

During the panel, Curtis emphasized the relevance of the novel’s themes, stating that the current climate crisis is happening right now. She cited recent heat records being broken, devastating floods, and the tragic death of a man in extreme heat. She believes that the timing of the novel’s release couldn’t be more important.

Initially, Curtis pitched the idea for “Mother Nature” as a potential movie to her husband, filmmaker Christopher Guest. However, he suggested a more literary approach, prompting Curtis to ultimately settle on the graphic novel format. She mentioned that a movie adaptation might still be a possibility in the future.

Curtis, who is already a bestselling author of numerous children’s books, expressed her excitement about this new venture. She sees it as one of the things she needs to accomplish, highlighting the limited time she has due to her age. Curtis joked about her mortality, stating that she has “shit to do” and is determined to make a difference.

“Mother Nature” will be available in bookstores on August 8th.
