Jada Pinkett Smith acknowledges that her relationship with Tupac Shakur could not progress due to a lack of chemistry.

In a recent interview with RollingOut, the 52-year-old actress opens up about her friendship with Shakur, who tragically passed away in 1996 as a result of a drive-by shooting.

Pinkett Smith explains, “There are various definitions of ‘soulmates’. If past lives exist, I believe Pac and I have shared a few.”

When questioned about any regrets regarding not pursuing a deeper romantic connection with the late hip-hop icon, Pinkett Smith dismisses the idea with a laugh.

The actress clarifies that the chemistry between her and Shakur was not romantic in nature, but rather a “friendship-love chemistry” that made them a formidable duo.

She elaborates, “It was as if destiny brought us together. However, the purpose wasn’t for us to unite romantically.”

Both Pinkett Smith and Shakur attended The Baltimore School of Arts during the 80s. In an old, undated interview video circulating online, the actress reminisces about their initial meeting at school.

Pinkett Smith recalls, “On the first day, he approached me and introduced himself. In high school, Pac had a unique appearance, but the moment he engaged with me, he became magnetic. From that point on, we instantly connected.”

This is not the first time Pinkett Smith has addressed the absence of chemistry between her and Shakur.

In 2015, during an interview on The Howard Stern Show, Pinkett Smith revealed that she once requested a kiss from Shakur when they were younger.

Pinkett Smith recounts, “And let me tell you, that kiss was one of the most repulsive experiences for both of us.”

Ultimately, Pinkett Smith went on to marry Will Smith in 1997, a year after Shakur’s passing. Smith admitted in 2020 that he experienced feelings of jealousy towards his wife’s relationship with Shakur.

Although legally married for over two decades, Pinkett Smith recently disclosed that she and Smith have been separated since 2016.
