‘It’s difficult to make such statements’

Olivia Rodrigo is experiencing a wave of emotions with her latest release, “SOUR.”

In an interview with The Julia Show on Audacy, Rodrigo opened up about her battle to keep the bold phrase “fame f—er” in the chorus of her hit single, “Vampire,” while co-writer Dan Nigro urged her to remove it.

“Some people criticized the phrase, saying it isolates you from others and isn’t relatable,” Rodrigo shared.

However, the “Drivers License” singer ultimately made the final decision.

Released on June 30, “Vampire” quickly climbed the ranks of the Billboard Hot 100, capturing the attention of fans worldwide. The song revolves around an ex-boyfriend who exploits Rodrigo’s fame and uses their relationship to his advantage.

Fans have been speculating about the inspiration behind “Vampire,” with some pointing to Rodrigo’s ex Zack Bia, who is a DJ and 26 years old, and others suggesting it refers to her relationship with producer Adam Faze, who is 24 years old and dated Rodrigo when she was 18.

“I don’t think the song is just about fame,” Rodrigo explained. “It’s more about someone being manipulative and draining you emotionally and creatively. I think that’s something many people can relate to, especially in today’s world where fame is so accessible to anyone.”
