In an interview on “Fox News Live” Saturday, Israeli Ambassador to the U.N. Gilad Erdan expressed his deep concern about Hamas’s recent attack on Israel. He called the act of terrorism “unprecedented” and drew a comparison to the tragic events of 9/11.
Erdan, who resides in Ashkelon, a city near Gaza, referred to the Hamas militants as “animals” and strongly condemned the group for targeting innocent civilians. The attack, which occurred on the Jewish holiday Simchat Torah, began early Saturday morning.
“They dragged babies, women, and the elderly from their homes and held them hostage,” Erdan explained. “Civilians walking on the streets were shot and mercilessly massacred. This level of violence is truly unprecedented.”
The Israeli government has reported a death toll of at least 250 people, with an additional 1,500 casualties. However, Palestinian authorities have slightly lower figures, citing 232 fatalities and 1,700 injuries.

Erdan also highlighted the proportionality of casualties, considering Israel’s smaller population compared to the United States. He equated the loss of lives to that of the 9/11 attacks.

“With 250 fatalities, the impact on us is equivalent to having 7,500 fatalities here in the United States,” Erdan emphasized. “And we have already witnessed 1,500 casualties, which would be like having 50,000 casualties in this country.”
He concluded by stating, “This is our 9/11. We are determined to change the dynamic and eradicate this old pattern. These terrorists will face severe consequences, and they will understand that such atrocities should never be committed against innocent civilians again.”
