Israeli Airstrikes Violate ‘Safe’ Zones in Gaza: Uncovering Recent Attacks

Israeli airstrikes unleash havoc on various locations across the Gaza Strip in the early hours of Thursday. Even areas that Israel had claimed to be safe zones were not spared, leaving more than 2 million Palestinians living in fear and uncertainty. This relentless bombardment follows Israel’s recent agreement to permit limited humanitarian aid from Egypt to reach Gaza, marking the first sign of relief in the midst of an 11-day siege. Sadly, many of Gaza’s 2.3 million inhabitants are surviving on just one meal a day, while also having to contend with drinking contaminated water due to scarce supplies. Furthermore, houses in Khan Younis, situated in southern Gaza where hundreds of thousands have sought refuge, have been targeted. Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis has reported receiving at least 12 deceased individuals and 40 injured patients.

As the Middle East reels from the explosion at Gaza City’s al-Ahli Hospital, a plan has been set in motion to provide Gaza with essential resources such as water, food, and other supplies. This development coincides with President Biden’s visit to Israel in an attempt to deescalate tensions and prevent the conflict from escalating further. While there are conflicting claims surrounding the cause of the deadly hospital explosion, with Hamas officials in Gaza accusing Israeli airstrikes and claiming a high death toll, Israel vehemently denies involvement. To support its stance, Israel has presented a barrage of evidence including videos, audio recordings, and other information, suggesting that the blast resulted from a rocket misfire by Islamic Jihad, another militant group operating in Gaza.

The Israeli military has confirmed the elimination of a prominent Palestinian militant in Rafah, near the border with Egypt. Additionally, numerous targets in Gaza have been struck, including tunnel shafts, intelligence facilities, and command centers. The military also claims to have taken out dozens of mortar launching posts, most of them immediately after they launched attacks on Israel. Since the onset of the conflict, Palestinians have relentlessly launched rocket barrages at Israel. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, the death toll in Gaza stands at 3,478, with over 12,000 wounded, predominantly comprising women, children, and the elderly. Furthermore, health authorities estimate that around 1,300 people remain trapped under the rubble. On the Israeli side, over 1,400 individuals, primarily civilians, lost their lives during Hamas’ deadly incursion on October 7. (For more Israel-Hamas war stories, click here.)
