Investigation Links Las Vegas Cold Case Murders to Gilgo Beach Connection

  • Las Vegas authorities are investigating unsolved cases for a potential connection to the Gilgo Beach suspect.
  • Rex Heuermann, a 59-year-old, was charged last month for the murders of three women in Long Island.
  • The mother of Jessie Foster, a Las Vegas victim, sees similarities between her daughter’s case and the Gilgo Beach killings.

In the 17 years since Glendene Grant last saw her daughter, she has encountered numerous false leads and dashed hopes regarding her daughter’s disappearance. Though she remains skeptical about the case being solved, she couldn’t help but notice the similarities when she learned about the investigation into the Gilgo Beach murder suspect.

Grant expressed her feelings in an interview with Insider, stating that over the years, she has learned to manage her hope. She said, “I always get really hopeful. And then I try to say to myself, ‘Don’t get too hopeful.’ You know, the higher you go, the farther you fall.”

Grant shared that the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department informed her that her daughter is among the unsolved cases being investigated for potential connections to Rex Heuermann. Heuermann, a 59-year-old man, is accused of killing multiple sex workers on Long Island.

Jessie Foster, Grant’s daughter, went missing in Las Vegas in 2006 at the age of 21. Grant believes her daughter was a victim of human trafficking and forced into prostitution before disappearing. Foster’s body has still not been found.

Grant is not the only one speaking up. The family of Jodi Brewer, who went missing in Las Vegas in 2003, has also revealed new developments in the cold case, suggesting a potential link to the Gilgo Beach suspect.

A spokesperson for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that detectives are investigating Heuermann’s involvement in multiple cold cases.

Foster and Brewer, like the Gilgo Beach victims, were young sex workers. Additionally, Brewer’s torso was found wrapped in a sheet and plastic in the desert, similar to the victims at Gilgo Beach.

Rex Heuermann, an architect from New York, was arrested last month and charged with the murders of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and Amber Lynn Costello. He is also considered the prime suspect in the killing of Maureen Brainard-Barnes. However, he has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Las Vegas authorities acknowledge the connection to Rex Heuermann

Grant revealed that she has been following the news coverage of the investigation into Heuermann in Long Island. She noted that Heuermann owned multiple timeshare properties in Las Vegas, including one purchased in 2004 and another in 2005, coinciding with the time Foster went missing.

Grant emphasized the timing, location, and similarities between Heuermann’s victims and her daughter’s case. The only difference is that Foster’s body has never been found.

According to Grant, Foster last communicated with her family on March 28, 2006, and then disappeared. Foster would regularly call a relative while in Las Vegas, and she promised her sister a call the next day before vanishing.

Grant expressed her disbelief in the idea that Foster willingly abandoned her close-knit family to start a new life elsewhere. She stated, “Jessie’s not leaving a family that she’s so close to and going somewhere with God only knows who and starting a life somewhere and leaving us out of it. That could not happen.”

The Suffolk County Police Department and Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, responsible for investigating and prosecuting Heuermann in Long Island, have not yet responded to Insider’s request for comment on the Las Vegas investigations.

Heuermann’s attorney has also not responded to Insider’s request for comment.

Grant fondly remembers her daughter as a beautiful and loving young woman with a hilarious personality. She shared stories of Foster’s talents, such as belching the alphabet and winning a spitting contest.

“She was very popular, very funny, and very kind and very loving,” Grant said. “It ripped a hole in our family when she went missing. And the hole has never been filled — but it’s been padded, I guess you could say.”
