Dani Alves, the Brazilian football player, is being investigated for an alleged sexual assault incident that occurred in Barcelona last month, as confirmed by the Catalonia Higher Court of Justice on Tuesday.
“Barcelona investigating magistrate’s court number 15 has initiated an investigation into an alleged sexual assault that took place at a Barcelona nightclub in December based on a woman’s complaint,” stated the court.
“The investigation is currently in progress, and we do not have further information at this time.”
CNN has confirmed that the allegations involve Dani Alves, according to a spokesperson from the court.
CNN has reached out to Mexico’s UNAM, Alves’ current club, for comment from both the team and the player but has not received an immediate response. Alves has denied any wrongdoing, according to Reuters.
Alves is considered one of the most accomplished football players of his generation, winning domestic titles in Spain, Italy, and France, as well as three Champions League titles with Barcelona.
Alves, who has won the Copa America with Brazil in 2007 and 2019, became Brazil’s oldest player to participate in the World Cup at the age of 39 when he represented the national team in Qatar against Cameroon.
