July 20 (UPI) — The NFL has officially approved the sale of the Washington Commanders to a partnership led by Josh Harris, marking a significant milestone in the wake of a recent report uncovering sexual misconduct allegations. Former team owners Tanya and Dan Snyder have relinquished control. In addition, as part of a resolution to the investigation, Dan Snyder has been ordered to pay $60 million to the league.

The sale of the team, valued at $6 billion, has been finalized, with Harris and a group of partners, including NBA legend Magic Johnson, taking ownership. Harris, the founder of Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, is a well-respected figure in the sports industry, known for co-owning the Philadelphia 76ers basketball team and the New Jersey Devils ice hockey team.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell expressed his congratulations to Josh Harris and his team, highlighting their impressive achievements both in business and sports. Goodell also emphasized their strong ties to Washington, emphasizing the positive impact they can bring to the community both on and off the field.

During a news conference, Harris expressed his lifelong dedication to Washington football and his commitment to making a difference. He emphasized the importance of winning championships, making a positive impact on the community, and creating unforgettable experiences for fans, similar to his own experiences growing up in Washington.

The sale comes on the same day the NFL released a 23-page report detailing the findings of an investigation into sexual misconduct allegations. The report substantiated several allegations made by a former cheerleader, Tiffani Johnston, against Dan Snyder. However, insufficient evidence was found to support claims of his involvement in obtaining a revealing photo of Johnston. Additionally, the investigation revealed financial wrongdoing by the team, including the deliberate concealment of $11 million in NFL ticket sales revenue.

Despite Dan Snyder’s denial of the allegations, the findings of the investigation have led to a resolution requiring him to pay $60 million to the league. The investigation also unveiled the club’s lack of cooperation, which prevented a comprehensive assessment of the extent of improperly shielded NFL revenues and Dan Snyder’s involvement in the scheme.
