Interview with Lucy Kennedy: Virgin Media presenter discusses Irish stars’ reluctance to showcase their homes on TV and reveals her ideal housemate

The upcoming season of her show will feature the TV and radio presenter living with a diverse group of celebrities, including former glamour girl Katie Price, Coronation Street actor Simon Gregson, RTÉ GAA presenter Des Cahill, and former Ireland international and football pundit Richie Sadlier. Kennedy has previously stayed at the homes of Davy Fitzgerald, Paul Gascoigne, and Christy Dignam. According to Kennedy, it was easier to convince British stars to participate in the show compared to Irish celebrities, with some Irish participants even making home improvements before her arrival. Kennedy shared her experiences at the launch of Virgin Media’s autumn schedule, revealing that living in Katie Price’s “Mucky Mansion” was quite intense. Kennedy expressed her admiration for Price, describing her as fun and confident, although she also found her to be a challenging interviewee. Kennedy discovered that Price is actually a very private person and prefers a casual and low-key lifestyle. Kennedy also formed a positive impression of Simon Gregson, finding him unassuming yet similar to his character on Coronation Street. Her favorite homes from the show were Vanessa Feltz’s London mansion and Jermaine Jackson’s Californian home. Kennedy believes that viewers will see Des Cahill in a different light during this season, as she initially had little knowledge about sports, which made interviewing Cahill and Sadlier challenging. One of Kennedy’s most memorable moments was being present for a life-changing phone call in 2019 that catapulted Dublin star Barry Keoghan onto the global stage. Kennedy shared how Keoghan received a call from Marvel while she was there, and she promised to keep the secret. Despite his fame, Keoghan remains down-to-earth. Kennedy expressed her desire to live with Newstalk presenter Pat Kenny on the show and also mentioned her interest in hanging out with former taoiseach Enda Kenny. While Pat Kenny has declined so far, Kennedy believes she will eventually convince him to say yes. Regarding rumors of Ryan Tubridy being offered a deal to join Classic Hits radio, Kennedy downplayed the talk, stating that it may have been exaggerated. Kennedy revealed that she is currently negotiating a new contract for her breakfast show with Hayes. She emphasized that she is unable to discuss Tubridy’s plans but hopes that he finds happiness in whatever he decides to do next. Despite the challenges of juggling filming and hosting a radio show in the early morning, Kennedy expressed her love for her radio show and her determination to continue despite moments of exhaustion.
