When it comes to making payments, I rarely reach for my debit or credit card anymore, except for when I’m dining at a restaurant. In most cases, I simply hover my iPhone over the payment system in the store I’m in.
However, this quick motion of hovering your card over a payment terminal results in your iPhone automatically charging the default card that appears on your phone. If necessary, you can always swipe to select a different card, but that adds another step.
A colleague of mine recently discovered fraudulent charges on his credit card, which led him to replace the card. Consequently, he also had to replace the default card in his Apple Wallet.
Although it is easy to do so, the option to select a default card is somewhat hidden. Therefore, here’s what you should do if you encounter a similar situation or if you simply want to choose a different card to use:
- Open the settings on your iPhone.
- Select “Wallet & Apple Pay.”
- Scroll down to the “Transaction Defaults” section and find “Default Card.”
- Choose the card that you want Apple Pay to use.
That’s it! Now, when you open Apple Pay to make a purchase, it will automatically use the new card.
