Don Jr., the eldest son of Donald Trump, is set to testify in the civil fraud trial against the Trump family and their business starting this Wednesday.
Donald Trump Jr. is named as a defendant in a $250 million lawsuit brought by the New York attorney general’s office against his father, the Trump Organization, and several executives, including his siblings.
The lawsuit accuses Trump Jr. and his brother Eric of knowingly participating in a scheme to inflate their father’s net worth for personal financial gain.
“As Executive Vice Presidents, the three children were intimately involved in the operation of the Trump Organization’s business,” the complaint states.
In a deposition from last year, Trump Jr. distanced himself from the fraudulent financial statements that the trial is centered on.
“I had no real involvement in the preparation of the Statement of Financial Condition,” Trump Jr. said in his deposition.
Donald Trump Jr. has worked in commercial leasing for the Trump Organization, including the company’s 40 Wall Street property that is involved in the lawsuit.
Trump Jr. became a trustee of his father’s revocable trust and certified the statements of financial condition for multiple years.
He stated that he relied on the accounting and legal departments at Trump Org. when signing the paperwork.
“Those people would have more intimate understanding of the specifics,” he testified.
Eric Trump is also expected to testify later this week in relation to valuations for New York properties.
Ivanka Trump was initially named in the lawsuit but had the claims dismissed. However, the attorney general’s office still wants to question her about her involvement in various properties.
