Insider Insights: Former White House Aide Discloses Trump’s Refusal to Wear a Mask and the Reasons Behind it

A new book uncovers the reason behind Donald Trump’s reluctance to wear a mask during the COVID-19 pandemic, even before vaccines and treatments were available.

The concern was his makeup, according to Cassidy Hutchinson, a former aide to Mark Meadows, Trump’s White House chief of staff.

The Guardian reports that her book, “Enough,” details a visit Trump made to an Arizona Honeywell facility in May 2020, where he chose not to wear a mask despite the facility producing them.

Hutchinson stated that before the event, Trump tried on a white mask and asked for feedback from his staff.

“I slowly shook my head. The president took off the mask and asked why I thought he shouldn’t wear it,” she wrote. “I pointed to the straps of the N95 mask I was holding. When he looked at his mask’s straps, he saw they were covered in bronzer.”

He was displeased with this discovery.

“Why didn’t anyone tell me?” he said. “I won’t wear this thing.”

After that incident, Trump was rarely seen wearing a mask, except for a few occasions.

“The press would criticize him for not wearing a mask, unaware that his vanity had caused him to reject them – and then millions of his followers did the same,” states The Guardian.

Trump has claimed that he refused to wear a mask for a different reason.

According to Washington Post journalists Carol Leonnig and Philip Rucker, he told them in 2021 that it was about “the importance, in his mind, of looking strong, looking healthy, looking impenetrable.”

“Enough” will be published on Sept. 26 and has already gained attention for Hutchinson’s account of being groped by Rudy Giuliani backstage at Trump’s Jan. 6, 2021 rally, which preceded the attack on Congress.

Giuliani denied the incident.
