Inside Jeff Bezos’ $79 Million Investment in a Lavish Florida Mansion, Revealed by the Orange County Register

Jeff Bezos Expands Real Estate Empire with Purchase of South Florida Mansion in “Billionaire Bunker”

Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon.com Inc. and the world’s third-richest person, is set to acquire a seven-bedroom mansion in Indian Creek, a privately developed island in the Miami area often referred to as the “Billionaire Bunker.” The purchase price is reportedly $79 million, representing a 7.1% discount from its initial listing of $85 million in May.

Although a spokesperson for Bezos declined to comment on the matter, the sale was facilitated by Dina Goldentayer and Danilo Tavares from Douglas Elliman real estate firm.

This latest acquisition follows Bezos’ purchase of a neighboring property for $68 million in June. With the new purchase, he will now own a 1.8-acre (0.7-hectare) estate that was constructed in 2000. The property had last changed hands in 2014 for $28 million.

According to an anonymous source familiar with the matter, Bezos may still make additional purchases in the surrounding area. Indian Creek, which is located in Biscayne Bay and approximately 8 miles (13 kilometers) from South Beach, is known for being the residence of prominent individuals including investor Carl Icahn, football star Tom Brady, and singer Julio Iglesias, as well as Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump.

In addition to the Indian Creek properties, Bezos already owns homes in Washington, a 9-acre Beverly Hills mansion that he acquired for $165 million in 2020, and an estate in Maui. His extravagant spending has accelerated since stepping down as Amazon’s CEO in 2021 and his divorce from MacKenzie Scott. Bezos is the owner of one of the world’s most expensive superyachts, the Koru, estimated to have cost $500 million.

The newly purchased Indian Creek property boasts approximately 19,000 square feet (1,770 square meters) of living space, complete with a pool, theater, library, and wine cellar. The listing describes the design of the house as “exuding timeless European glamour.”

Bezos, with a fortune of nearly $156 billion according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, joins the ranks of the wealthiest homeowners in Florida. Indian Creek features approximately 40 residences, a country club, and its own police department.
