Influencer Confesses to Pranking her Boyfriend by Deep-Faking his Voice to Expose Cheating, Describes it as a Lighthearted Hoax

Mia Dio, a popular influencer with millions of TikTok followers, recently created a prank video claiming she used AI technology to catch her boyfriend cheating. However, Dio admitted that the skit itself was fabricated, but the voice-cloning technology she utilized was real and inspired by actual scams involving AI.

In the viral TikTok video, Dio confidently stated, “I’m going to AI clone my boyfriend’s voice, call his best friend, and figure out if he lied to me about what he was doing last night.” She explained that she imported voicemails left by her boyfriend into a voice-cloning software to recreate his voice.

Using Billy’s cloned voice, Dio called his friend and pretended to have amnesia while asking about the previous night’s activities. The friend revealed that Billy had kissed another woman, leaving Dio seemingly devastated at the end of the video. However, Dio clarified that the entire conversation was staged, and her boyfriend had never cheated on her.

Despite Dio’s confession that it was all a prank, some TikTok users believed the video to be real, emphasizing the pain they perceived in her eyes. Others questioned why such a beautiful girl would be cheated on.

Dio shared that she only spent $4 to clone her boyfriend’s voice and was able to create the video in just two takes, highlighting how anyone could do it. She recalled learning about this software while reading an article about virtual kidnappings, where scammers would use the voice of loved ones to deceive their targets.

Interestingly, Dio’s prank was not entirely baseless, as AI voice scams have occurred in real life. Jennifer DeStefano, an Arizona mother, recounted her experience with scammers using AI voice cloning technology to pose as her teenage daughter. DeStefano admitted that she initially believed it was her daughter speaking due to the realism of the voice.

In conclusion, while Mia Dio’s video was fabricated, it sheds light on the potential dangers of AI voice cloning and the existence of scams utilizing this technology. Dio emphasized that her intention was merely to gain attention and views. As she stated, “It’s not that deep. It was a fake scenario, and that’s it.”
