Ineos Unveils Sleek Quartermaster 4×4 Pick-Up with Hydrogen Fuel-Cell Technology

Ineos Automotive, led by billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has unveiled its latest models and provided a glimpse into its future with hydrogen fuel-cell technology. The new model, called the Grenadier Quartermaster, is a double-cab pick-up truck. It made its global debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and order books are now open. Ineos Automotive has also showcased a prototype of a zero-emissions 4×4 Grenadier that uses hydrogen gas to generate electric power. Additionally, the company has confirmed its plans to launch a smaller battery-electric SUV in 2026.

The Grenadier Quartermaster offers improved versatility with its larger size compared to the original Station Wagon model. It has a longer wheelbase, which provides more space for carrying loads. The Quartermaster also has impressive off-road capabilities, with high ground clearance and wading depth. It is available in multiple versions, with prices starting from £66,215.

Ineos Automotive has also developed a hydrogen fuel-cell version of the Grenadier, known as the Grenadier Hydrogen Fuel Cell (FCEV) Technology Demonstrator. The vehicle utilizes BMW Group’s advanced hydrogen fuel cell powertrain, which generates electric power using a chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen. The only emission from the vehicle is water vapour. The hydrogen Grenadier Demonstrator has undergone extensive testing to ensure its performance capabilities are not compromised.

In addition to these models, Ineos Automotive has plans to launch a new all-electric smaller SUV in 2026. The company believes that hydrogen fuel cell technology is better suited for larger vehicles and longer trips, while battery electric vehicles are more suitable for shorter trips and urban deliveries.

Ineos Automotive is committed to hydrogen as a key fuel of the future, as it produces 400,000 tonnes of hydrogen per annum. The company is calling on the UK government to provide the necessary infrastructure to support the growth of the hydrogen economy.

The Grenadier Quartermaster and Grenadier fuel cell Demonstrator will be showcased at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where visitors will have the opportunity to test drive the Grenadier Station Wagon on an off-road course.
