A 33-year-old man pleaded guilty to multiple felony charges on Monday after assaulting his ex-girlfriend and throwing beer bottles at deputies in Coachella.
Estevan Ivan Chavez Jaimes, charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, inflicting corporal injury on a spouse, and resisting or deterring an officer, entered guilty pleas. He also pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of willful child cruelty. Sentencing is scheduled for the following day.
According to Sgt. Matthew Allert of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, deputies from the Thermal Sheriff’s Station immediately responded to a domestic violence disturbance at a residence on Playa Del Amor Street at around 1 a.m. on November 13, 2022.
Chavez, heavily intoxicated, not only physically assaulted his ex-girlfriend but also started throwing full beer bottles at the deputies present at the scene, Allert stated. However, the deputies managed to restrain Chavez and took him into custody.
Although Chavez’s ex-girlfriend reported experiencing pain on her face, she declined medical treatment. Chavez himself sustained minor injuries.
Chavez was subsequently arrested and booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning. He is currently held on a bail amounting to $50,000.
