A man has been apprehended in an ongoing sex trafficking investigation, resulting in the rescue of a young girl, as announced by the Long Beach Police on Thursday.
Calvin Lane, a 37-year-old resident of Gardena, was taken into custody on July 26th by the Long Beach Police Department.
Currently, Lane is being held in jail with a bail set at $1.1 million, awaiting his next court appearance on August 10th at a downtown Los Angeles courtroom, according to jail records.
According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Lane has pleaded not guilty to the charges of human trafficking of a minor for a commercial sex act by force or fear, as well as pimping.
An investigation into this matter was initiated after officers responded to a distress call in the 67th Street and Long Beach Boulevard area on July 9th, as stated by the police.
“Upon arrival, officers encountered a minor who appeared to be a potential victim of human trafficking and immediately notified the Vice Investigations detectives for further investigation,” the police added.
“During the course of their investigation, the detectives determined that the minor was forcefully taken to Los Angeles to work as a commercial sex worker by her trafficker,” the police stated.
The police further revealed, “While under the control of the sex trafficker, the victim experienced physical and sexual assault. Subsequently, the trafficker transported the minor to Long Beach to continue her work in the sex trade.”
Unfortunately, details regarding the age of the girl are not immediately available.
After identifying Calvin Lane as a suspect, detectives acquired both an arrest warrant and a search warrant for his residence, according to the police.
The police also stated, “During the arrest, officers uncovered another adult victim.”
As a result, the girl has been placed in the custody of the Department of Children and Family Services, while the adult victim has been offered assistance by the police department.
