Individual Admits Guilt for Secretly Recording Own Testimony During Federal Grand Jury Hearing: ‘I’m On the Verge of Dishonesty’

A member of a federal grand jury admitted to obstructing justice after he allegedly recorded videos of himself in the courtroom and posted them on his public Instagram feed. The 28-year-old Washington resident, Alexander Hamilton, pleaded guilty to the charges. He had posted the videos after being sworn in on September 9, 2022.

Court records indicate that one of the videos captured Hamilton taking his oath. In the video, he can be seen looking down at his iPhone and saying, “I’m about to lie.” Hamilton was arrested in November following an interview with FBI agents.

According to prosecutors, Hamilton had approximately 10,400 followers on his Instagram page. Despite being instructed to keep everything he saw and heard during the grand jury proceedings confidential, he secretly recorded and posted videos of the proceedings. Prosecutors stated that Hamilton used one of his two phones to record the videos, even though jurors are required to store their phones in lockers.

In a text post, Hamilton wrote, “Sometimes you have to give out false information…Just to see who talks too much.” He also posted a video overlaying the proceedings with images of rats.

Prosecutors mentioned in a statement that Hamilton displayed an awareness that his actions were not allowed. They are seeking a prison sentence of six months to three years. The hearing is scheduled for November 29.

HuffPost reached out to the Justice Department to determine whether Hamilton’s behavior impacted any of the cases heard by his panel, but a response has not been received yet.
