Identity of Man Killed in Shooting by South LA Police Revealed

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified Olban Perdomo Rodas, a 25-year-old man who was fatally shot by police in South Los Angeles. The shooting occurred around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday in the 6300 block of South Hoover Street.

Police were responding to a call about a grand theft auto suspect when they found the suspect inside the victim’s car, which was parked in the victim’s driveway. The area is located a few blocks west of the Harbor (110) Freeway.

Despite giving verbal orders for Perdomo to exit the vehicle, which he ignored, officers approached and opened the driver’s door. They noticed Perdomo’s arm protruding from the back seat while holding a black handgun. Fearing for their safety, the officers requested backup.

Eventually, the suspect exited the vehicle while still holding the handgun and refused to drop it despite demands from the officers. An officer fired a less-than-lethal round, but it failed to subdue Perdomo. He then pointed the handgun at the officers, which led them to open fire in self-defense.

Perdomo was pronounced dead at the scene, and the replica-style handgun loaded with metal pellets was recovered by the police.
