Iconic wine shop, Sherry Lehmann, faces lawsuit from landlord over $3.6M in unpaid rent

Sherry-Lehmann, the renowned wine retailer, is facing a lawsuit from its landlord, Glorious Sun, for $3.6 million in unpaid rent. The landlord is demanding that the store be cleared out immediately. The shop has been closed since March when its liquor license expired and was not renewed. The lawsuit, filed in New York Supreme Court, names not only the store but also its former owners as defendants. The complaint alleges that each of the former owners, including Michael Aaron and Michael Yurch, are liable for the rent debt. Other defendants in the suit include former CEO Chris Adams and current co-owner Shyda Gilmer. The store is also facing lawsuits from suppliers and unpaid sales tax. In July, the FBI raided the store and an office building where the company’s wine storage business was allegedly moved. Despite these financial troubles, the store remains unchanged since its closure, with mostly low-quality wines left on the shelves. There are concerns about the safety of customers’ stored wines and the store’s ability to pay its bills.
