Hyundai and Kia Alert Customers of Recall for More than 90,000 Vehicles Due to Potential Oil-Pump Fire Hazard

Hyundai Motor and Kia have issued a recall for over 91,000 vehicles recently released in the U.S. due to a potential fire hazard in their latest models.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) posted a recall notice on Thursday stating that the electrical components of the vehicles’ oil pump assemblies may overheat, increasing the risk of a fire.

As a precautionary measure, Kia and Hyundai are advising customers to park their affected vehicles outside and away from structures until the necessary repairs have been completed.

Recall affects new models

The recall includes Hyundai’s 2023-2024 Palisade, 2023 Tucson, Sonata, Elantra, and Kona vehicles. Kia has also recalled its 2023 Soul and Sportage cars, as well as its 2023-2024 Seltos vehicles.

Both companies will notify owners of the recalled car models about any potential defects by late September. Dealers will inspect and replace the defective electric oil pump controllers free of charge, as required.

If consumers have any questions regarding the vehicle recalls, they can contact Kia at 1-800-333-4542 (reference number SC275) or Hyundai at 1-855-371-9460 (reference number 246). They can also reach out to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) at 1-888-327-4236 for further information.
