  • An astonishing development regarding the man responsible for the dress that caused a sensation on the internet: he has been charged with attempting to murder his wife.
  • Back in 2015, the infamous dress sparked controversy, with some people perceiving it as white and gold, while others saw it as blue and black.
  • Keir Johnston is now facing allegations of an almost 11-year-long history of domestic violence.

A recent report reveals that the individual responsible for the virally famous dress that created a rift on the internet has been arrested on charges of attempting to murder his wife.

In 2015, Keir Johnston became a sensation when a photograph of his mother-in-law’s dress, worn at his wedding, went viral. People were divided, perceiving the dress as either white and gold or blue and black.

According to The Times of London, Johnston is now facing allegations of almost 11 years of domestic violence and controlling behavior towards his wife.

Johnston appeared at the High Court in Glasgow on Monday to face charges of repeatedly assaulting his wife between April 2019 and March 2022, which include incidents of verbal abuse, strangulation, and threatening her with a knife.

One specific incident involved Johnston allegedly placing his wife in a headlock and forcibly removing her from a pub when she refused to leave with him. Another incident involved him striking her through an open vehicle window while attempting to gain access to the vehicle.

The allegations further imply that Johnston isolated his wife from her friends and monitored her activities and finances.

The prosecution claims that Johnston committed a series of violent attacks against his wife, culminating in an attempted murder.

Johnston denies all charges against him, and there will be a preliminary hearing preceding the trial scheduled for 2024.

When the photo of the dress was shared online by wedding guest Caitlin McNeill, it quickly became a viral sensation and was described as having “broken the internet.” Notable figures such as Kim Kardashian, Justin Bieber, and Taylor Swift even weighed in on the debate.

Johnston and his wife were even invited to appear on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where they received a $10,000 gift and a trip to Grenada after confirming that the dress was indeed black and blue.

The dress also featured in an advertising campaign aimed at raising awareness about domestic violence, asking the question, “Why is it so hard to see black and blue?”
