Yamaha Ray ZR: Leading in Domestic Markets; Yamaha FZ: Top Export Model

Yamaha’s sales performance in domestic markets experienced a year-on-year (YoY) and month-on-month (MoM) decline in August 2023. Sales dropped to 58,042 units, a decrease of 1.05% compared to the 58,659 units sold in August 2022. In addition, there was a MoM decrease of 6.21% from the 61,884 units sold in July 2023.

In August 2023, the company introduced limited numbers of the Yamaha Monster Energy MotoGP Edition with YZF-R15M, MT-15 V2.0, and Ray ZR 125 Fi, bringing fresh updates and new color options to each of these models. Yamaha Ray ZR was the best-selling two-wheeler in the company’s portfolio in August 2023. Sales increased by 35.01% YoY to 13,668 units, up from 10,124 units sold in August 2022.

Not only did it top the company charts, but the Ray ZR also secured the 9th position on the list of top 10 scooters in the past month. MoM performance declined by 13.65% compared to the 15,828 units sold in July 2023. Yamaha FZ sales fell YoY by 31.99% and MoM by 20.48%. Sales stood at 13,241 units last month, down from the 19,469 units sold in August 2022 and the 16,651 units sold in July 2023.

While the Fascino (11,572 units) and R15 (10,483 units) experienced a YoY sales improvement of 26.47% and 7.03% respectively, MoM sales declined for both models. MT 15 sales also declined on a YoY basis by 23.01% to 7,296 units from 9,477 units sold in August 2022 but grew by 25.68% MoM from 5,805 units sold in July 2023.

The relatively new Yamaha Aerox scooter gained popularity in the market with sales reaching 1,782 units in August 2023, reflecting a 50.38% MoM growth compared to the 1,185 units sold in July 2023.

Yamaha Exports: MoM Growth at 43.62%

Lackluster sales in domestic markets were compensated by improved exports on a MoM basis, with a growth of 43.62%. Every model in the company’s portfolio showed significant MoM growth, except for Fascino. However, YoY sales continued to decline by 35.70%.

Total exports in August 2023 stood at 19,734 units. This marked a YoY de-growth of 35.70% from the 30,689 units shipped in August 2023. MoM exports showed an increase over the 13,740 units shipped in July 2023. Yamaha FZ topped the export chart with 8,388 units sold last month, a YoY decline of 37.06% from the 13,326 units shipped in August 2023. However, MoM sales improved by 48.72% compared to the 5,640 units exported in July 2023.
