War in Israel: Faith Leaders Respond to Terrorism

As the war continues in Israel following a shocking attack by Hamas and Islamic jihad militants on Saturday morning, faith leaders have shared their reactions and responses to the terrorism with Fox News Digital.

Rabbi Pinchas Taylor of Plantation, Florida, expressed his thoughts, saying, “Judaism is not just a religious faith; the Jewish people around the world are a family who experience triumph and tragedy as one. With Jews under attack anywhere in the world, Jews everywhere feel pained and personally at risk. The horrific news coming out of Israel this past weekend is one of the darkest moments in recent Jewish history.”

Taylor added, “Hamas is an evil terrorist group that deliberately targets civilians, including mothers, babies, and families. Their founding charter calls for the destruction of all Jews. They represent darkness and destruction, launching their vile attack on what is meant to be the happiest holiday on the Jewish calendar.”

Taylor, director of the American Faith Coalition, emphasized the importance of fighting darkness by adding light. He suggested that praying, especially reciting the Psalms, is a powerful spiritual weapon that everyone can use to fight against terror. He also encouraged Jews to consider taking on an extra mitzvah, as it not only shows solidarity but also uplifts someone on the other side of the world. For non-Jews, Taylor suggested reaching out to Jewish acquaintances to let them know they are not alone.

Pastor Jesse Bradley of Grace Community Church in Auburn, Washington, expressed his grief for the situation in Israel. He quoted Psalm 122:6, where God exhorts believers to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. He urged people to take time to pray for the tragedy unfolding in Israel and listed specific ways to intercede according to Scripture.

  • Pray for leaders in Israel and America to have wisdom in handling the situation.
  • Pray for people to find salvation in Jesus.
  • Pray for the protection of innocent people in danger.
  • Pray for comfort and peace for those who have suffered loss.
  • Pray for the war to end and promote peace.
  • Pray for God’s intervention and rescue.
  • Pray for the nations to seek and know God.

Bradley emphasized that God loves all people and has a special plan for Israel. He highlighted the endurance of Israel as a testament to God’s faithfulness and noted that calling on God together as a nation is crucial for survival in times of challenges and threats. He concluded by stating that ultimate peace in the Middle East will only come with the return of Jesus Christ as the Prince of Peace.
