FIRST ON FOX: House Republicans are demanding answers from the Department of Justice (DOJ) regarding the allocation of grant money and the decision-making process behind it. This move comes as some conservatives are calling for reduced funding to the department due to accusations of politicization.
Jim Jordan, the House Judiciary Chair from Ohio, has sent letters to three DOJ offices, expressing concerns over the Biden administration’s lack of cooperation in providing information about grant allocation within the Office of Justice Programs, Office of Violence Against Women, and the Community Oriented Policing Services.
These efforts coincide with a challenging spending showdown that lawmakers will face upon their return from their home districts in September.
TRUMP REACTS TO ‘ABUSE’ BY DOJ: ‘THIS IS WHAT YOU GET’ FOR LEADING THE POLLS
There is a growing call among House GOP members, especially allies of former President Donald Trump, to reduce funding for the DOJ and the FBI. They believe that the department has become politically biased under President Biden and Attorney General Merrick Garland.
According to a source familiar with the situation, House Judiciary Republicans are demanding “full transparency of the DOJ’s grant-making processes.” They assert that “everything remains on the table.”
HUNTER BIDEN LAWYER WITHDRAWS FROM CASE AHEAD OF EXPECTED WITNESS TESTIMONY ON ‘SWEETHEART’ PLEA DEAL
In his letter on Tuesday, Jordan pointed out that the three DOJ offices in question have not responded to the Committee’s request for information and documents regarding the grants, even though the request was made on June 30. He stated that despite repeated attempts at accommodation, the offices missed a self-imposed deadline of July 28 to provide the requested information on grant disbursement and recipients.
The letter accuses the offices of failing to provide a specific date by which they would fulfill the Committee’s request, despite emails from the committee inquiring about the production of the requested documents. Jordan’s letter also suggests that if the Biden administration fails to comply voluntarily, his committee may have to consider the use of subpoenas to obtain the information.
