House Republicans convened a private conference call with members of the Freedom Caucus on Sunday night in an effort to prevent a government shutdown, according to Fox News.
The objective of the call, scheduled for 8 p.m., was to reach an agreement on a continuing resolution to fund the government for an additional month. There has been disagreement between the Freedom Caucus and House Republican leadership regarding the specifics of a funding package.
Sources informed Fox News Digital that there has been “promising progress” between the Freedom Caucus and other Republicans prior to the call.
The proposed interim spending bill, with a duration of 31 days, is expected to maintain current funding while allocating additional funds for border security and immigration-related matters. The House plans to vote on the bill on Thursday.

The continuing resolution will also allocate funds for veterans and military spending at current levels, while implementing a 1% reduction from the discretionary spending levels of fiscal year 2023. House Republicans hope to pass their defense spending bill this week.
The defense spending bill will be paired with House Resolution 2 (HR 2), which aims to tighten border security and revise asylum provisions.
Notably, the defense bill does not include additional funds for disaster relief in Ukraine, despite the request from the White House.
