In a glorious celebration, the House of Representatives paid tribute to Kammerchor Manila, a church choral group, for their remarkable victory as the 2023 Choir of the World at the prestigious Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in Wales, UK.

House Resolution No. 1191 formalized this remarkable achievement, as the House extended its warmest congratulations to the Quezon City-based choral group, recognizing their contribution in bringing yet another international recognition to the Philippines.

Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, one of the authors of the resolution, expressed his profound pride in the Filipino talent.

“Although it no longer comes as a surprise, I am consistently thrilled to hear about the success of our fellow countrymen in the field of singing. Filipino talent truly shines through awards like these,” Romualdez stated.

Apart from their crowning achievement, Kammerchor Manila also earned two other prestigious awards during their 2023 United Kingdom – European Tour. They were honored with the Absolute Winner title at the 69th Certamen Internacional de Habaneras y Polifonia and received the 3rd Prize-Grand Prix at the 60th Seghizzi International Choral Singing Competition.

The members of the House commended Kammerchor Manila for exemplifying the abundant talent and musical prowess of Filipinos. They recognized the group as a source of immense national pride, elevating the Filipino spirit, fostering unity through music, and upholding the Filipino legacy on the global stage. The House agreed that Kammerchor Manila truly deserves the highest recognition and commendation.

Established in 1992 by the acclaimed musician and professor Fidel Calalang Jr., Kammerchor Manila is widely regarded as one of the finest church choirs in the Philippines. The group boasts an impressive track record of success in international choral competitions and delivers awe-inspiring performances across various musical genres.

In the distinguished Llangollen competition, which has celebrated exceptional global talent since its inception in 1947, Kammerchor Manila truly stood out among 16 participating countries.

Under the brilliant leadership of conductor and pianist Anthony Go Villanueva, their performances included “Cast Thy Burden Upon the Lord” by renowned organist Alejandro Consolacion II and “Atsalums” by Latvian composer Jëkabs Jančevskis. As a testament to their remarkable efforts, the group was awarded the prestigious Pavarotti Trophy and a cash prize of £3,000.

Other competing ensembles such as the Cantilon Chamber Choir from Canada, Delaware Choral Scholars from the USA, and Le Voci from England performed admirably but ultimately fell short, making Kammerchor Manila the undisputed victors.

Comprised of 34 talented vocalists, Kammerchor Manila has an illustrious history adorned with numerous accolades, including top prizes at international choral festivals in Italy and Spain. The group has also received the esteemed Ani ng Dangal Award from the Philippine National Commission for Culture and the Arts a remarkable three times.
