HBO has officially announced a fresh lineup of actors set to portray key figures from George R.R. Martin’s ‘Fire and Blood,’ including Lord Cregan Stark. “There is no war so detestable to the gods as a war between family members — and no war so bloody as a battle between dragons,” Princess Rhaenys Targaryen (played by Eve Best) warns in the first-look trailer for House of the Dragon season 2, set to return to HBO next summer.
The surprising new footage from the fiery prequel series was revealed at the CCXP convention in Brazil, leaving fans in awe. The network also confirmed a group of actors who will embody notable book characters from Fire and Blood, adding to the anticipation.
Among the new cast members are Clinton Liberty (Normal People) as Addam of Hull, Jamie Kenna (Children of Men) as Ser Alfred Broome, Kieran Bew (Warrior) as Hugh, Tom Bennett (David Brent: Life on the Road) as Ulf, Vincent Regan (One Piece) as Ser Rickard Thorne, and Tom Taylor (The Dark Tower) as the highly-anticipated character of Lord Cregan Stark.
The sneak peek takes viewers into the gloomy aftermath of the pivotal season 1 finale, which witnessed the tragic death of Rhaenyra Targaryen’s child, Lucerys Velaryon (portrayed by Elliot Grihault), during a dragonback skirmish with Aemond Targaryen (played by Ewan Mitchell).
The grief-stricken Rhaenyra (played by Emma D’Arcy) and the vengeful Prince Daemon (portrayed by Matt Smith) prepare for the looming war, with Alicent Hightower (portrayed by Olivia Cooke) declaring, “The war will be fought, many will die, and the victor will eventually ascend the throne.”
House of the Dragon, helmed by showrunner Ryan Condal, delves into the Dance of the Dragons, a brutal conflict from Westeros history. Season 1 set the stage for the impending devastation as Rhaenyra’s claim to the Iron Throne was challenged by her uncle, Aegon II Targaryen (portrayed by Tom Glynn-Carney). The slaying of Lucerys by Aemond’s dragon Vhagar served as a catalyst for war.
