House GOP Subpoena Prosecutor for Hunter Biden Investigation

WASHINGTON – The House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday issued a subpoena for a top deputy to the special counsel investigating Hunter Biden as part of the Republican impeachment inquiry. The deputy, Lesley Wolf, was summoned to testify before the GOP-led committee on Dec. 7. Wolf, a prominent prosecutor from the office of U.S. attorney David Weiss, was involved in the Hunter Biden investigation and was instructed to testify. Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, noted that the investigation into Hunter Biden deviated from standard procedures, as mentioned by two IRS whistleblowers. Jordan asserted that Wolf’s involvement in the Biden investigation uniquely positions her to advance the panel’s impeachment inquiry. Both Wolf and a Justice Department spokesperson refrained from commenting.

This request for an interview comes after Biden’s plea deal with federal prosecutors unraveled, leading to the indictment of Hunter Biden on gun charges by special counsel David Weiss, appointed by Trump after the failed plea deal. Weiss, who recently participated in a closed-door voluntary interview with the Republican-led Judiciary Committee, refuted the public testimony of IRS whistleblowers who claimed he lacked authority to bring charges.

Jordan has issued a series of subpoenas related to the impeachment inquiry, targeting the Biden family members and other administration officials. The White House counsel, Richard Sauber, has demanded the withdrawal of these subpoenas, calling them “unjustified” and labeling the impeachment inquiry as “illegitimate.”
