Hospitalized Suspect Shot by Deputies in Diamond Bar Succumbs to Injuries

An individual who was wounded by law enforcement officials in Diamond Bar after allegedly attacking his mother has passed away at a medical facility, as announced by authorities on Wednesday.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call at 11:45 a.m. on Monday about a man donning body armor and discharging an assault rifle in the 2900 block of Crooked Creek Drive.

The man’s identity has yet to be disclosed, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.

According to Sheriff’s Lt. Hugo Reynaga, the 30-year-old assailant had assaulted his mother prior to encountering deputies. The woman received medical attention and was subsequently discharged from the hospital.

Reynaga stated that the suspect, who resided at a residence on Crooked Creek Drive, was outside in a bulletproof vest while possessing a “ghost gun” resembling an AR-15 when his mother returned home.

Following an argument, the suspect fired at his mother’s car tire before proceeding. The woman trailed behind him, and a little further down the road, the suspect purportedly attacked her with a pocket knife, stabbing her in the back. He then continued walking until reaching Diamond Bar Boulevard, where a Tesla driver stopped because the suspect was obstructing their lane.

An eyewitness claimed that the suspect had fired shots into the air prior to the arrival of deputies. Reynaga mentioned that the deputies repeatedly ordered the suspect to drop his weapon.

“He ignored their commands,” Reynaga stated.

According to the lieutenant, the suspect approached a deputy near the Tesla at some point, prompting the deputy and another officer to open fire. No deputies suffered injuries during the incident.
