Nov. 4—DEKALB JUNCTION — Tragic news struck DeKalb Junction last week as the untimely death of a young man was determined to be a homicide.

In a recent update, New York State Police revealed that an autopsy was conducted by the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office on Joshua A. Guzman, a 21-year-old resident of Hermon, on Nov. 1. The findings from the autopsy revealed that Guzman suffered from multiple blunt force injuries to the head, with the forensic pathologist, Katrina Monday, ruling the manner of death as a homicide.

According to the state police report, authorities responded to a call about a disorderly subject on Wells Street in DeKalb Junction at approximately 4 a.m. on Oct. 29. Upon arrival, they discovered Guzman, who had sustained head injuries during a fight.

Guzman was initially transported to Gouverneur Hospital and later transferred to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse due to the severity of his condition.

Tragically, Guzman succumbed to his injuries on Oct. 30, prompting an ongoing investigation by the state police. To aid in the investigation, authorities have distributed surveillance camera review cards to residents of DeKalb Junction.

St. Lawrence County District Attorney Gary M. Pasqua expressed his commitment to conducting a thorough investigation and assured the public that there is no immediate danger.

“Our top priority is ensuring a comprehensive and meticulous investigation is carried out, and I want to assure the community that there is no imminent threat to their safety,” Pasqua stated.
