  • A Florida homeowner returned from a long vacation to find his home trashed and burglarized by a squatter.
  • As part of a plan to confront the individual, he chose to sleep in a closet overnight, armed with a handgun.
  • To scare off the squatter, the homeowner fired a shot at the door, leading to the arrest of the perpetrator.

A Florida homeowner took matters into his own hands after discovering that a squatter had been illegally occupying his home during a long vacation. To confront the individual, the homeowner devised a plan that involved sleeping in a closet with a handgun.

Upon returning from a seven-month trip to New Zealand on June 9, the homeowner was shocked to find his northern Florida home vandalized and burglarized, as reported by Fox 35 Orlando. Determined to catch the squatter, he patiently awaited their return in the closet.

At approximately 8 p.m., the homeowner’s alarm sounded, alerting him to the presence of the squatter. He discovered 26-year-old Ze’Moye Brown peering into the room, resulting in a heated argument about the ownership of the property.

After demanding that Brown leave his house, the homeowner resorted to firing a shot at the front door. This action forced Brown to flee, prompting him to call the police and claim both being shot and the rightful owner of the house, according to DailyMail.com.

Brown was subsequently arrested and found in possession of methamphetamine and a small amount of marijuana. He faced charges of felony drug possession, misdemeanor marijuana possession, and trespassing.

Despite Brown’s claims that he had been living at the residence for “a few months” and that the house had been vacant for years, the homeowner denied missing any items that were reported stolen, as stated by Fox 35 Orlando. No comment was provided by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office in response to Insider’s request.
