Home Renovation Triumph: How Our Transformation Rescued Our Dream Wedding

The Tarbetts were able to utilize their newly constructed art studio as an emergency venue for their wedding reception when Covid restrictions were lifted. The asking price for the property is €1.555m, and interested parties can contact Sherry FitzGerald at (01) 2894386.

Antionette Sinclair Tarbett, a graphic designer, and her partner, Kieran, moved into Caladh House, a five-bedroom detached home in Rathmichael, and immediately began renovating the property. The studio, which was built as part of the home upgrade, turned out to be so spacious that it served as a backup venue for their wedding reception, which unexpectedly grew in size.

Initially, the couple planned for a small wedding due to Covid restrictions. However, when the number of allowed attendees increased to 100, they decided to invite everyone to their house and hold the reception in the studio. The last-minute change of plans made for a wonderful and memorable day.

Aside from its uses for their wedding, the studio also provided Antionette with space to rescue and care for four greyhounds. She named three of them after Star Wars characters, showcasing her love for the franchise. The dogs – Princess Leia, Solo, Luke, and Jet – have become Antionette’s pride and joy.

Jet, the oldest hound at seven years, initially struggled with pain and adjusting to indoor living. However, after receiving care and being part of a pack, she has shown significant improvement. With Kieran’s two golden retrievers, Buddy and Snow, the couple now has a total of six dogs.

Caladh House, originally built in 1996, spans 3,000 sq ft and offers privacy and tranquility. It underwent extensive renovations by architect Ross Cahill O’Brien, who incorporated curves and modern details into the design. Antionette’s creative touch, influenced by her background in ceramics and fine art, is evident throughout the house. The couple spent almost a year repainting, refinishing floors, and adding pops of color to various rooms.

The house is bathed in natural light, making it an ideal space for Antionette to pursue her artwork. The dedicated studio, measuring 215 x 86 sq ft and equipped with plumbing, heating, and a wood-burning stove, provides her with the perfect space to create. Additionally, the studio’s amenities make it versatile and could potentially be converted into another living area or rented out for additional income.

Nestled amidst greenery and accessed by a long driveway, Caladh House offers a tranquil retreat surrounded by nature. It is conveniently located near Shankhill, Dalkey, Killiney, Bray, and Cabinteely, providing easy access to amenities.

The Tarbetts are preparing to downsize and embark on a new venture together called Fenrir Studio, specializing in ceramic installations. While Caladh House is undoubtedly beautiful, it is too large for their needs. The couple believes it would make an ideal home for another family seeking a spacious and light-filled property in a picturesque setting.

With an asking price of €1.555m, Sherry FitzGerald hopes to find a buyer who will appreciate the unique features and potential of Caladh House.
