Hollywood Writers’ Strike Resolved as Union Boards Approve Studio Deal – Breaking News Update

Leaders of Hollywood’s writers union announced the end of their nearly five-month-long strike on Tuesday, following the approval of a contract agreement by the board members. The Writers Guild of America’s eastern and western branches both voted to accept the deal, officially bringing the strike to an end. Writers will be able to resume work at 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, even before the ratification of the contract by the writers themselves. The hope of resolution for the writers has also raised optimism among striking actors. However, talks have yet to begin for the actors, who remain on strike. The actors have now expanded their walkout to include the video game market, putting pressure on studios. Issues such as wages, safety measures, and protections on the use of artificial intelligence are at play in both negotiations. The video game market has seen significant growth, with consumers spending $34.9 billion so far this year. Negotiations with the writers’ union have been a priority, but talks are expected to resume soon with SAG-AFTRA, the actors’ union.
