Hochul’s audacity in claiming she’s resolved New York’s crime epidemic

Governor Kathy Hochul has accurately pointed out that the problematic “reforms” that have caused a surge in crime were implemented by her predecessor, Andrew Cuomo.

However, it is unrealistic for her to believe that she has completely resolved the situation.

In a recent statement, the governor boasted about delaying the budget for an entire month until the Legislature addressed the no-bail law, claiming that they were able to accomplish this. This is simply not true.

While she made some minor adjustments to this law, as former prosecutor Jim Quinn has noted, these changes are inconsequential.

Furthermore, Hochul has made little effort to address the disastrous “discovery” rules that place unrealistic deadlines on prosecutors to gather extensive, often irrelevant evidence. This has resulted in the loss or dismissal of numerous criminal cases.

Additionally, she has taken no action to amend the Raise the Age law, which diverts violent offenders under the age of 18 to family court, effectively shielding them from appropriate consequences for their actions.
