High Alert: Authorities Searching for Former Orange County Resident Accused of Threatening Judge’s Life

A former resident of Orange County is facing federal charges for allegedly threatening to kill a sitting judge, as revealed in court documents obtained on Friday.

Byrom Zuniga Sanchez, previously residing in Laguna Niguel, has been charged with a felony for threat by interstate/foreign communication, according to a criminal complaint filed in Los Angeles federal court on Thursday.

The complaint states that Zuniga, who is currently a fugitive believed to be in Mexico, has sent multiple threatening communications since May 16. These threats were directed at an Orange County Superior Court judge who presided over a family court case involving Zuniga from 2019 to 2021, as stated by FBI Special Agent Tyler Call in the document.

Furthermore, Zuniga has allegedly made threats to kill or harm other individuals, including judges, attorneys, and law enforcement officers, according to the FBI agent.

In July, Zuniga reportedly sent a menacing email to the Orange County judge, stating, “I am more committed to murdering you than I am to being present as a father” and “Do you have any last words, apologies, or regrets you want to communicate before I lawfully kill you,” as mentioned in the affidavit.

According to Agent Call, Zuniga’s email messages have also included threats against other judges, attorneys, and police officers. For instance, the email sent in July warned, “The remainder of my life will be dedicated to assassinating judges, attorneys, and a police station’s entire shift staff.”

The affidavit reveals that Zuniga is the subject of various domestic violence protective orders, pending arrest warrants, and a workplace violence order. He also has multiple warrants in Orange County for state criminal offenses, including evading police/reckless driving, invasion of privacy, violation of a court order, and criminal threats.

Additionally, Zuniga’s Instagram account posts indicate that he is in Morella, Mexico. The affidavit also states that Zuniga does not have legal status in the United States and is subject to deportation.

In May 2022, Zuniga allegedly led Orange County Sheriff’s Department deputies on a chase after being called to a home where he was violating a domestic violence court order. After negotiations lasting several hours, deputies cornered Zuniga at a business location, where he eventually surrendered and was arrested.
