Hidden Camera Set Up After Odor Made His Family Ill

An intriguing incident has unfolded in Florida, where a man took matters into his own hands to uncover the source of chemical smells in his home that were affecting his baby’s health. Umar Abdullah, the concerned father, decided to install a surveillance camera in his home, and the footage revealed his neighbor, Xuming Li, injecting substances under the door of Abdullah’s condo. Li, a former chemistry PhD student, has since been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

According to reports from WFLA, Abdullah and his wife moved into their third-floor condo in June 2022 and welcomed their daughter shortly after. A dispute between Li and Abdullah erupted via text messages, with Li complaining about excessive noise from the Abdullahs living above him. Surprisingly, these noises were typical of everyday household activities, such as running vacuums and closing toilet seats, as mentioned in the New York Times. The condo association advised Li to be more understanding, emphasizing that these noises were normal.

In May, while Abdullah and his family were away, a friend who was collecting a package in the condo detected a strong, irritating smell. Upon their return, the family continued to experience chemical odors, leading to various health issues, including headaches, irritation, hair loss, and breathing difficulties. Disturbingly, even their baby suffered from coughing fits and vomiting. Despite efforts from professionals like plumbers and the fire department, the source of the odor remained elusive. This prompted Abdullah to install a hidden camera, capturing footage of Li inserting substances through a crack in the door on June 27.

Laboratory testing confirmed that the injected substances contained methadone and hydrocodone, both opioids. Li was subsequently arrested on charges of felony aggravated stalking, dispersing a chemical agent, and possession of a controlled substance. He also faces battery charges for exposing a law enforcement officer to the chemicals. In an interview with WFLA, Abdullah expressed his shock, comparing the incident to an attack with chemical weapons. Li has pleaded not guilty, and his attorney assures that all the facts will emerge in due course.

This peculiar incident raises questions about the motives behind Li’s actions and highlights the importance of surveillance and vigilance in safeguarding one’s home and family.
