Here’s Why Vanna White Will Be Absent from Certain ‘Wheel of Fortune’ Episodes This Fall

Vanna White will be absent from the letter board for a few episodes of the popular game show, Wheel of Fortune, this autumn. However, her absence is not directly related to her ongoing salary negotiations that began in June.

According to USA Today, White missed a day of taping for the show’s annual “Teacher’s Week” due to illness. While the next day of taping was rescheduled, White’s sick day could not be accommodated. As a result, Bridgette Donald-Blue, one of the honored teachers recognized as the 2023 California Teacher of the Year by the California Teachers Association, had the unique opportunity to take White’s place as co-host.

This marks only the fourth time White has missed taping in her impressive 41-year tenure as Wheel of Fortune co-host, as reported by Us Weekly.

When White returns to spinning the wheel, she will be joined by Ryan Seacrest, who was named Pat Sajak’s successor in June. Seacrest expressed his excitement in an Instagram post, stating that he is honored to follow in the footsteps of the legendary Pat Sajak and work alongside the great Vanna White.

After the news broke, rumors spread that White was upset about not being considered for Sajak’s position, viewing it as a lack of respect from the Wheel of Fortune production team, as stated by The Daily Mail.

Reportedly, White has only been making one-fifth of Sajak’s $15 million salary for several years. In the upcoming Season 41 of Wheel of Fortune, she has reportedly requested half of Sajak’s earnings. However, an exclusive source informed People last month that White’s negotiation entails asking for not just 50 percent, but potentially even more than Sajak’s salary.

Wheel of Fortune airs on weeknights at 7:30/6:30c. Check your local listings on the Wheel of Fortune website for more information.
